St. Joseph's Village Idiot

St. Joseph MP Kelver Darroux, resident idiot

village idiot (noun): a person of very low intelligence resident and well known in a village.

idiot savant (noun): a person considered to be mentally defective who displays brilliance in a specific field.

The "village" is St. Joseph and the specific "field" in the case of boy minister Kelver Darroux, is stupidity. Kelver has once again embarrassed himself and Dominica by making a ridiculous proclamation that the country is poised to become a regional "Silicon Valley". How he came to that conclusion we cannot tell but we can probably presume that he may have been driving through the Layou Valley, admiring the soaring mountains and cascading valleys and, having read somewhere about a place called Silicon Valley, came up with a fanciful and preposterous thought; "Layou Valley will be my Silicon Valley". Jackass!

Does Kelver know what really goes on in Silicon Valley? The region is populated by highly skilled technology professionals who design and create the sophisticated products that we use. These professionals, from top tier universities in the US and elsewhere, are engineers in computers, artificial intelligence, science, and related fields and have been in this business for years. Kelver is putting forward the idea of having 3 Indians train some Dominicans at the State College over a 2 year period and believes that is sufficient to "position" Dominica to be the region's Silicon Valley. This boy is as dumb as he looks.

At the opening of an ICT center at the State College Kelver is quoted on a GIS release as saying; "The ICT Center for Excellence and Innovation is expected to deliver the following certified courses and others; developing with Java Basic and Advanced, 3D Animation with Maya, Software Business Processes, Basic and Advanced Linux, Communication and Networking, Web Designing and Applications, Visual Basic, Relational Database, Advanced Linux administration and others".

Kelver Darroux, the professionals in Silicon Valley are engineers with advanced degrees, real degrees, not the type you buy in India. They did not become ICT engineers by doing 6-month courses at a mediocre college. Did the 3 Indians come from Lovely Professional like Roosevelt Skerrit?

People are laughing at you. Fool!

  1. I check out this site every now and again for information you won't find on DNO and other new site in Dominica. Some of the articles found here are interesting and some i don't care to read. But this one makes no sense and is pointless. I am still trying to figure out what you are saying here. all i see is you trying to discredit a young Dominica with a dream. Obviously we don't have the venture capital companies or individuals to front the money for some of our youths great ideas.

As Muhammad Ali said: “Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”

So Mr. Lowe why the attach on Kelver?
    what's your angle? i don't get it....

    1. Thank you for your comments. This piece is not so much as an attack on Kelver than an attempt to hold an elected representative to account for the statements he makes when addressing us. We pay his salary; they are our employees. Kelver and the rest of his compadres have been feeding us bullshit while sucking the milk out of the cow named Dominica's Treasury. It is irresponsible for him to stand before us to say that we're positioned to be the region's Silicon Valley when the truth is an entire universe away.

Kelver is playing us for fools when he says that 3 Indians teaching a few short courses in standard computer education over a 2-year period, courses that in reality are available online as part of Continuing Education programmes of numerous UK, Canadian and US institutions of higher learning, will position us to be the "Silicon Valley" of the Caribbean is preposterous, and he must be called out for this. We are not ones to mince words on MiTC.

I would like to remind you that Mas In The Cemetery is a blog, not a newspaper. DNO serves a particular purpose and we do as well. A blog, in the event that you're not aware, is not a newspaper; its content is supported by the news but it comes with our opinion. MiTC is similar to an Editorial in a standard newspaper. This is part of what attracts you to us, and we appreciate it. Incidentally, did you happen to notice that none of the newspapers in Dominica has an Editorial? Why do you suppose that is?

  2. Clint Lowe, lol lol! I must say; reading this was very amusing. I am very pleased to know we have more and more Dominicans reading and exchanging ideas. This is the future, increased literacy and openness to ideas, philosophies and things of that nature. I am glad to see a debate going. Maybe one day we can have our politicians debate and maybe then we could possibly select better candidates at the highest level. I am not discrediting anyone, we all have our merits and shortcomings but competition seeks out the best. #NaturalSelection

  3. Wow, reading form the outside and not knowing "The Village Idiot." I think these are fascinating courses and could potentially drive Dominicans interested in technology to be the "Silicon Valley" of the Caribbean. You never know. Don't forget the pioneers that came from Silicon Valley and led the way dropped out of college ;). Most of the smartest and forward thinkers weren't even college grads. However, some Dominicans should learn technology to project the country forward.
