NO JOKE - RED TOILET YET NO WATER

In the words of the former Labor Party Parliamentary Representative for the Kalinago Territory, Ashton Graneau “the most brilliant idea that the Dominica Labor Party government has introduced over the last decade is the eradication of pit toilet.” Although the United Nations has been championing this effort for the last 20 years we want to agree with Ashton Graneau that the greatest achievement by the Skerrit-led government is its “EFFORT” to eradicate pit toilet. The question is - can the Roosevelt Skerrit government honestly claim that they have successfully tackled the abject poverty that is so umbilical to the Pit Toilet issue?

Mr. Skerrit and the garrulous Pit Toilet advocate and Pit Bull Reginald Austrie, know very well that the problem of pit latrines cannot be effaced simply by providing LPO’s for people to pick up toilet sets at J Astaphans or Rudolph Thomas. There are people as far back as 2013 who have received toilets and are still unable to put them into beneficial use simply because of the constraints of unemployment and poverty. In some instances people are unable to build toilet enclosures or even to pay the utility connection fees.

As usual Mr. Skerrit acts like his handouts will solve the problem of poverty and so at the Paix Bouche village council inauguration, January 17, Mr. Skerrit actually offered to pay the utility connection fees for all the toilet recipients from the villages of Paix Bouche and Dos Dane. So the toilet recipients must go to Mr. Skerrit's office in order to flush their toilet. Sadly this is the level of humiliation and supplication that our people have been subjected to under the Roosevelt Skerrit regime. Sad but true!!!

In our relentless pursuit of truth we have decided to follow the “Red Toilet” Hand Out operation and what we found out is very humbling but also vexing. We found out that there are toilets sets sitting underneath houses waiting for the best offer; some toilet recipients are waiting on materials promised by the PM to build a toilet enclosure. We were even able to trace “Red” toilets and building materials from election bribery on a construction project that was stopped by the planning authority because the owner does not have proper proof of land ownership. The owner is identified, as a Labor Party henchman and director of a certain ministry. We will come back to this story at a later date. One thing for sure they can’t hide the evidence.
In one instance we were humbled when we came upon a situation where a family is unable to pay the utility connection fee and has resorted to setting up a contraption with a garden hose permanently connected to a public stand Pipe. The hose is used to supply water to the family’s Red toilet. Some people may attribute the illegal utility connection with the usual Laborite attitude of entitlement however what was most enthralling to us is that according to reliable sources this particular family received their Red Toilet in 2014 and is still today servicing the toilet with an illegal connection from the public stand pipe, in spite of the embarrassment.

Please note that we are presenting the evidence not as a means of poking fun at anyone but simply to tell the truth and to expose the schemers and imposters riding the backs of poor people and posing as government in Dominica.

Skerrit and his government know very well that the people of Dominica need financial independence and not handouts. If the people are unable to pay for the utility connection fees then it is only logical that the same people may not be able to meet the monthly utility bills or even toilet paper expenses.

So when Reginald Austrie and Skerrit continue to brag about the “Eradication of Pit Toilet” know that it is all “pawol en bouche” with the sole intention to perpetuate blind loyalty.

A few years ago a Calypsonian from the Village of Wesley sang a simple yet very profound Calypso. In it’s simplicity the lyrics educes the consequences and the impact of the Roosevelt Skerrit economic enslavement policies.
